Fire and Ice Paradise Fish (Macropodus opercularis)

Overview

The Fire and Ice Paradise Fish is a stunning freshwater species, famous for its vibrant red fins contrasted with shimmering icy-blue body accents. Hardy and visually striking, it is an ideal centerpiece for smaller community tanks or species-specific setups.

Origin

Native to East Asia, particularly China and Vietnam, inhabiting slow-moving rivers, ponds, and rice paddies with dense vegetation.

Feeding

Omnivorous and adaptable. Accepts high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp), and live foods. A varied diet enhances colouration and overall health.

Tank Mates

Compatible with peaceful, non-fin-nipping fish. Best housed with small tetras, rasboras, danios, or snails. Avoid other aggressive males or fin-nippers that may harass them.

Aggression

Males are territorial and may display aggressive behaviour toward other males, especially in smaller tanks. Generally peaceful toward other species when kept with adequate space.

Experience Level

Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, making it suitable for aquarists new to freshwater species.
