Overview:
The Frogmouth Catfish is a highly unusual, bottom-dwelling predator named for its wide, flattened head and enormous mouth, giving it a frog-like appearance. Perfectly adapted for ambush hunting, it lies motionless and camouflaged against the substrate, waiting for unsuspecting prey to pass by. This slow-moving, cryptic species is a fascinating choice for aquarists who enjoy oddball fish with unique behaviors.
Origin:
Native to Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. Found in slow-moving, soft-bottomed rivers and swamps, often in areas with muddy or sandy substrates and low visibility.
Feeding:
Carnivorous ambush predator. Prefers live foods such as small fish, shrimp, and worms, though some can be trained to accept frozen foods like prawns and fish fillets. Feed sparingly, as they have slow metabolisms and are prone to obesity if overfed.
Tank Mates:
Best kept alone or with large, robust tank mates that cannot fit into its mouth. Will swallow any suitably sized fish or crustacean. Avoid active or aggressive fish that may stress it.

-
Minimum Tank Size: 40 gallons

Behavior & Personality:
