Geophagus Tapajos Hondae Orange Head 4cm Overview: The Geophagus Tapajos 'Hondae' Orange Head, a strikingly beautiful and peaceful South American cichlid, is known for its vibrant orange coloring on the head and its gentle, sand-sifting behavior. Growing up to 6 inches in length, this species is a standout addition to any freshwater aquarium, showcasing a mix of elegance and dynamic activity. Origin: Hailing from the Tapajos River basin in Brazil, this species thrives in soft, slightly acidic to neutral waters. Their natural habitat is characterized by sandy substrates and densely vegetated areas, offering ample hiding spaces and foraging grounds. Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, the Orange Head Geophagus flourishes on a varied diet. High-quality cichlid pellets, frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms, and vegetable matter should be included to ensure optimal health and coloration. Regular feeding, balanced with their natural tendency to sift through sand for additional nutrients, keeps these cichlids in peak condition. Tank Mates: Ideal for community tanks, the Orange Head prefers the company of similarly sized, peaceful fish. Tank mates can include larger tetras, peaceful South American cichlids, and catfish. Avoid aggressive species that might bully or outcompete them for food. Aggression: Noted for their peaceful demeanor, these cichlids show minimal aggression, especially towards tank mates of different species. They can display territorial behavior during breeding but generally coexist well with others when provided with sufficient space. Experience Level: Intermediate. While not overly demanding, maintaining the ideal water parameters and diet requires some experience. Their need for a spacious tank with a sandy substrate and hiding places also calls for thoughtful aquarium planning. Water Parameters:- Temperature: 76°F to 84°F (24°C to 29°C)
- pH: 6.0 to 7.5
- Hardness: Soft to medium, up to 12 dGH
