Gold Rim Butterfly Fish – Chaetodon xanthocephalus
Overview:
The Gold Rim Butterfly Fish is a striking species, easily recognized by its bright yellow head, silvery-white body, and distinctive golden edging along the fins. Its unique appearance and graceful movements make it a standout choice for large marine displays.
Origin:
Native to the Indian Ocean, particularly around Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and East Africa.
Feeding:
Omnivorous — feeds on frozen or live mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine flakes or pellets, with some natural algae grazing.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful to moderately active community fish, avoiding aggressive or highly territorial species.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though may become territorial in smaller aquariums or when kept with similar butterflyfish.
Experience Level:
Best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists, as it requires stable conditions and a varied diet.
