Originating from the freshwater river systems of Southeast Asia, particularly in countries like India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, this species is known for its sizable presence and distinctive shark-like appearance. Feeding these impressive creatures involves a carnivorous diet consisting of live or frozen foods like shrimp, earthworms, and small fish. Due to their predatory nature, tank mates should be carefully selected, preferably larger species that won't become prey. Other robust fish species like larger barbs, loaches, or robust catfish can cohabit their space. Regarding aggression, the Bagarius Yarelli tends to be relatively solitary and may exhibit territorial behavior, especially as it grows in size. It's recommended to provide adequate hiding spots and space within the tank to reduce potential conflicts. Intermediate to experienced aquarists are best suited for keeping Goonch Giant Sand Shark Catfish due to their substantial size and specific care needs. A spacious aquarium with excellent filtration and regular water changes is essential. Ideal water parameters include a neutral pH around 6.5-7.5, temperatures ranging from 75-82°F (24-28°C), and moderately soft to moderately hard water. Their striking appearance and intriguing behavior make them a captivating addition to larger, well-maintained aquariums, but their care requirements should be thoroughly understood before bringing them into a home aquarium setting.
