Grass Cutter Catfish Schilbe Intermedius 6cm Overview: The Grass Cutter Catfish, scientifically known as Schilbe intermedius, is a fascinating freshwater species prized for its unique appearance and tranquil demeanor. With its streamlined body and distinctive elongated snout, this catfish adds a touch of elegance to any aquarium. Origin: Originating from the freshwater rivers and tributaries of West and Central Africa, these catfish are commonly found in slow-moving waters with abundant vegetation. Their natural habitats consist of sandy or muddy substrates with plenty of hiding spots among aquatic plants and driftwood. Feeding: These omnivorous catfish are predominantly carnivorous, relishing in live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small crustaceans. They also appreciate sinking pellets or tablets, ensuring a well-rounded diet. Tank Mates: Peaceful by nature, Grass Cutter Catfish are excellent community tank members. They thrive alongside similarly tranquil species such as tetras, rasboras, peaceful cichlids, and other non-aggressive catfish. Avoid pairing them with overly aggressive or territorial tank mates. Aggression: Known for their docile temperament, Grass Cutter Catfish rarely exhibit aggression towards tank mates. They spend most of their time foraging along the substrate or resting peacefully among plants or hideouts. Experience Level: Ideal for aquarists of varying experience levels, these catfish are relatively undemanding in terms of care. Novice and experienced hobbyists alike will appreciate their adaptability and hardiness. Water Parameters: Maintaining stable water conditions is key to their well-being. Aim for temperatures between 72-78°F (22-26°C), a pH range of 6.5-7.5, and relatively soft to moderately hard water with a dGH of 5-12.Above images for illustration purposes only.
