Green Paradise Fish (Macropodus opercularis)

Overview

The Green Paradise Fish is a vibrant freshwater labyrinth fish, notable for its shimmering green body and long, flowing fins. Hardy and interactive, it adds color and personality to community or species-specific aquariums.

Origin

Native to East and Southeast Asia, including China, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Inhabits slow-moving rivers, ponds, and rice paddies with dense vegetation and calm waters.

Feeding

Omnivorous. Accepts high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia), and small live foods. A varied diet enhances color and encourages natural hunting behavior.

Tank Mates

Semi-aggressive. Best kept with robust, non-fin-nipping species or in a species-specific setup. Avoid very passive or long-finned fish.

Aggression

Moderate. Males are territorial, especially during breeding. Providing plants, driftwood, and hiding spots helps minimize aggression.
