Gunthers Mouthbrooder Cichlid Chromidotilapia Guntheri 5cm Overview: The Gunther's Mouthbrooder Cichlid, scientifically known as Chromidotilapia Guntheri, is a captivating species cherished by freshwater aquarium enthusiasts. Renowned for its unique breeding behavior, where males participate in mouthbrooding, and its striking appearance, this cichlid makes a fascinating addition to any aquarium. With a predominantly silver body, accented by hints of green and orange, especially during spawning, this species provides a visually stunning display. Origin: Native to the soft, acidic waters of West Africa, particularly in regions stretching from Liberia to Cameroon, Gunther's Mouthbrooder thrives in environments that mimic these natural conditions. They are found in a variety of water bodies, from slow-moving streams to small rivers, where they tend to stay close to the bottom. Feeding: In the wild, Chromidotilapia Guntheri has an omnivorous diet, feeding on small insects, larvae, and plant matter. In captivity, they adapt well to a varied diet that includes high-quality cichlid pellets, frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms, and vegetable matter. Regular feeding with a balanced diet ensures vibrant coloration and health. Tank Mates: While relatively peaceful for a cichlid, careful consideration should be given when selecting tank mates. Suitable companions include other West African cichlids of similar size and temperament, as well as other non-aggressive fish species that thrive in similar water conditions. Avoid very small fish that could be seen as prey. Aggression: Gunther's Mouthbrooder exhibits moderate aggression, primarily during breeding. Establishing a spacious tank with plenty of hiding spots and territories can mitigate aggressive behavior. A minimum tank size of 55 gallons is recommended, with thoughtful aquascaping to create natural barriers. Experience Level: This species is best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Successful care requires an understanding of their specific water parameter needs and breeding behavior, as well as maintaining a balanced ecosystem within the tank. Water Parameters:- Temperature: 75-80°F (24-27°C)
- pH: 6.0-7.5
- Hardness: 5-15 dGH
- Regular water changes are crucial to mimic the clean, soft water of their natural habitat.
