Hi Fin Checker Hawkfish – Plectranthias inermis
Overview:
The Hi Fin Checker Hawkfish is a small, striking reef fish known for its tall dorsal fin, checker-like body pattern, and vibrant coloration. Its perching behavior and alert, curious nature make it a fascinating addition to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, typically inhabiting coral reefs, drop-offs, and rocky outcrops at moderate depths.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – thrives on a diet of small meaty foods, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Multiple feedings per day are recommended for optimal health.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful or moderately semi-aggressive reef fish. Avoid large predatory species that may stress or eat this delicate hawkfish.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – territorial within its perching area but generally peaceful toward compatible tank mates.
Experience Level:
Intermediate to Advanced – requires a mature reef tank with plenty of live rock for perching and hiding.
