Honeycomb Filefish – Cantherhinus pardalis
Overview:
The Honeycomb Filefish is a striking marine species, distinguished by its honeycomb-patterned body with muted brown and cream coloration. Its slender, laterally compressed body and calm demeanor make it a fascinating addition to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, typically found around coral reefs and rocky coastal habitats.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – feeds on algae, small invertebrates, and prepared marine foods. In captivity, offer a diet including spirulina, marine algae, mysis shrimp, and high-quality pellets.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful reef fish. Avoid aggressive species that may harass or outcompete the Honeycomb Filefish.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though may nibble on soft corals or small invertebrates in reef setups.
Experience Level:
Intermediate – suitable for aquarists experienced with stable marine aquariums and proper feeding routines.
