Origin: Native to South America, these catfish are typically found in the Amazon River basin. Their natural habitats often include slow-moving waters amidst driftwood and vegetation. Feeding: Trachycorystes trachycorystes are omnivores and accept a varied diet. They eagerly consume sinking pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp, and also graze on algae and plant matter. Tank Mates: Peaceful by nature, these catfish thrive in a community setting with other calm species such as tetras, rasboras, peaceful cichlids, and other non-aggressive bottom dwellers. Avoid pairing them with larger, aggressive tank mates. Aggression: This species is known for its gentle temperament, displaying minimal aggression towards tank mates. They prefer a tranquil environment and may become stressed in overly aggressive or crowded tanks. Experience Level: Suitable for aquarists of intermediate experience levels and above, the Iron Head Black Driftwood Catfish requires attention to water quality and tank conditions. Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C), a pH range of 6.5-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water.
