Kawarimono Butterfly Koi Carp (Cyprinus carpio)
Overview:
The Kawarimono Butterfly Koi is a unique and eye-catching koi, known for its varied patterns and colors that don’t fit into traditional koi classifications. Its long, flowing fins and distinctive markings make it a captivating addition to any ornamental pond.
Origin:
Developed in Japan, the Kawarimono group encompasses all non-traditional koi varieties, with selective breeding emphasizing unusual patterns, colors, and butterfly fins for elegance.
Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feed high-quality koi pellets as the main diet, supplemented with vegetables, shrimp, or seasonal treats. Feed 1–2 times daily during warmer months.
Tank / Pond Mates:
Peaceful and social. Best kept with other koi or calm, similarly sized pond fish such as goldfish.
Temperament / Aggression:
Very peaceful and non-aggressive, ideal for community ponds.
Experience Level:
Beginner to advanced. Hardy and adaptable, though proper pond size and good filtration are essential for optimal health.
