L27d Thunder Royal Pleco Panaque Ambrusteri Teles Pires Overview: The L27d Thunder Royal Pleco, scientifically known as Panaque Ambrusteri "Teles Pires," is a magnificent and rare freshwater fish that stands out in any aquarium due to its striking coloration and unique body patterns. This species is prized among aquarists for its impressive size, peaceful temperament, and its role in algae control within the tank. Origin: Native to the clear waters of the Teles Pires River, a tributary of the Tapajós River in Brazil, the Thunder Royal Pleco thrives in environments with strong water flow and plenty of driftwood. Feeding: Primarily herbivorous, this pleco requires a diet rich in vegetable matter. Offer a variety of foods such as zucchini, cucumbers, and high-quality sinking pellets formulated for herbivores. Wood should be present in the tank as they graze on its surface for fiber. Tank Mates: Thunder Royal Plecos are generally peaceful and can be housed with a wide range of tank mates. Ideal companions include small to medium-sized peaceful fish, other plecos (provided enough space), and species that prefer the middle to upper levels of the water column, ensuring minimal competition for territory. Aggression: This species exhibits low aggression, making it an excellent candidate for community tanks. However, territorial disputes can occur with other bottom-dwellers over hiding spots, so ample space and hiding places are necessary. Experience Level: Due to their specific dietary and environmental needs, the Thunder Royal Pleco is recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists.
