Overview:
The Long Tentacle Red Base Sand Anemone is an eye-catching marine invertebrate, featuring a deep red base with long, flowing tentacles that sway gracefully in the water column. This species is a popular choice for display aquariums due to its dramatic movement and vibrant coloration.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly found in sandy substrates near reefs in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – thrives on meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialized invertebrate foods. Photosynthetic symbionts may supplement nutrition under strong lighting.
Tank Mates:
Compatible with clownfish and other non-aggressive reef-safe fish. Avoid housing with fish or invertebrates that may nip at or disturb the anemone.
Aggression:
Moderately territorial – capable of stinging nearby corals and invertebrates with its nematocysts.
Experience Level:
Intermediate to advanced aquarists – requires stable water parameters, strong lighting, and proper acclimation.
