Lunula Butterfly Fish – Chaetodon lunula

Overview:
The Lunula Butterfly Fish is a striking marine species, featuring a bold black “mask” over its eyes, contrasting with a bright yellow and white body. Its elegant swimming and vibrant pattern make it a captivating centerpiece for reef and community aquariums.

Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, including Hawaii, Japan, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Feeding:
Omnivorous — thrives on frozen or live mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine flakes or pellets, with occasional algae grazing.

Tank Mates:
Best suited for peaceful to moderately aggressive reef and community tanks, avoiding overly aggressive or nippy species.

Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though may defend feeding territories in smaller tanks.

Experience Level:
Recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists, due to its dietary requirements and sensitivity to water quality.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)

• pH: 8.1–8.4

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025

• Minimum Tank Size: 75+ gallons
