What is Maidenhair vine?
Maidenhair vine (also known as Muehlenbeckia complexa, Necklace vine and Australian ivy) is a vine-like bush native to New Zealand. While it does produce small flowers and fruit, these are quite small and non-toxic. Generally, Maidenhair vine is used as a background plant, running down walls or terrarium backgrounds to create a lush green landscape. The vines are quite strong and can be used by small lizards and amphibians for climbing.
How do you keep Maidenhair vine?
Maidenhair vine is quite easy to keep in a greenhouse or terrarium. The vine likes high temperatures and humidity with only occasional light. This means that the easiest way to care for Maidenhair vine is to put it in a humidity and temperature-controlled vivarium. If you are looking at keeping the vine outside of a terrarium, we recommend only keeping it in a greenhouse as it will struggle with the British climate both indoors and outdoors.
What is Maidenhair vine good for?
Maidenhair vine is a typical background plant for tropical terrariums. It looks lush and rich while being strong enough for climbing and even supporting small epiphytic plants.
