Masked Heniochus Butterfly Fish – Heniochus monoceros

Overview:
The Masked Heniochus Butterfly Fish is a striking marine species, easily recognized by its elongated dorsal “banner” fin and distinctive black facial mask. Peaceful and social, it adds elegance, movement, and vibrant color to reef and community aquariums.

Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and northern Australia.

Feeding:
Omnivorous — thrives on marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis and brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and occasional algae.

Tank Mates:
Ideal for peaceful reef and community tanks, best kept in small groups of 2–3, compatible with tangs, clownfish, gobies, and other non-aggressive species.

Aggression:
Very peaceful, non-territorial.

Experience Level:
Suitable for intermediate aquarists, as they require stable water quality and space for natural schooling behavior.

• pH: 8.1–8.4

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025

• Minimum Tank Size: 100+ gallons
