Melanesia Midnight Dwarf Angelfish – Centropyge nox
Overview:
The Melanesia Midnight Dwarf Angelfish is a striking, all-black angelfish that adds elegance and mystery to the marine aquarium. Its deep, velvety coloration and compact size make it a unique choice for aquarists looking for something different from the usual brightly colored dwarfs.
Origin:
Native to the Western Pacific, particularly around Melanesia, where it inhabits reef slopes and coral-rich lagoons.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – enjoys a diet of marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and angelfish pellets or flakes. Supplement with algae-based foods to ensure proper nutrition.
Tank Mates:
Best suited for peaceful to semi-aggressive community tanks. Can be territorial toward other dwarf angelfish. May occasionally nip at LPS corals, clam mantles, and some soft corals if kept in a reef setup.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – generally peaceful but will defend its territory, especially against similar species.
Experience Level:
Intermediate – hardy, but does best in a stable, well-established marine aquarium.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Salinity: 1.020–1.025
-
