Melanesia Yellow Tail Dwarf Angelfish – Centropyge flavicauda
Overview:
The Melanesia Yellow Tail Dwarf Angelfish is a hardy and colorful species, recognized for its deep blue to black body contrasted by a bright yellow tail. Small but full of personality, this angelfish makes a lively addition to both reef and fish-only aquariums.
Origin:
Found throughout the Western Pacific, particularly around Melanesian reefs where it inhabits coral-rich lagoons and outer reef slopes.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – thrives on a varied diet of marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and prepared angelfish foods. Supplement with marine algae sheets for best health.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful to semi-aggressive fish. Can show territoriality toward other dwarf angelfish, so avoid mixing unless in a large tank. May occasionally nip at LPS corals, clams, and soft corals in reef environments.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – generally peaceful with most fish but may defend its territory against similar species.
Experience Level:
Beginner to Intermediate – one of the hardier dwarf angelfish, suitable for aquarists with some marine experience.
