Neon Velvet Damsel – Neoglyphidodon oxyodon
Overview:
The Neon Velvet Damsel is a strikingly beautiful fish, famous for its electric blue body with a dark velvet sheen. Its bold colors make it a favorite for aquarists who want a hardy yet visually stunning addition to their marine tank.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, particularly reefs and lagoons with abundant coral cover.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – accepts a wide variety of foods including marine flakes, pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and algae-based fare. A varied diet enhances its vibrant coloration.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with semi-aggressive or similarly sized fish. Can be aggressive toward peaceful or smaller species, but is reef-safe with corals and most invertebrates.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive to aggressive, especially as it matures. Providing ample rockwork and hiding spots helps reduce territorial disputes.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate – very hardy and adaptable, but its territorial nature requires thoughtful tankmate selection.
