Normans Lampeye Killifish Poropanchax Normani 3cm Overview: The Normans Lampeye Killifish, also known as the Norman's Lampeye or simply Lampeye, is a captivating small freshwater fish known for its vibrant blue eyes that seem to glow under the right aquarium lighting. This peaceful species is perfect for adding a splash of color and activity to any community tank. Its slender body and graceful swimming make it a favorite among aquarists. Origin: Native to the freshwater streams and pools of West Africa, specifically Cameroon and Nigeria, the Normans Lampeye Killifish thrives in environments with plenty of vegetation and a gentle flow. They are accustomed to warm, slightly acidic to neutral waters. Feeding: Lampeyes are omnivores with a preference for small live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and micro worms. They will also accept high-quality flake foods and micro pellets designed for small freshwater fish. Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include other peaceful small fish such as small tetras, rasboras, and dwarf corydoras. Avoid larger or aggressive species that may bully or eat the Lampeye. Shrimp and snails can also coexist peacefully with Normans Lampeye Killifish. Aggression: This species is known for its peaceful demeanor and is rarely aggressive towards tank mates. Males may display mild territorial behavior during breeding but generally coexist well in a community setting. Experience Level: Normans Lampeye Killifish are suitable for aquarists of all levels. While easy to care for, they do best in a well-maintained aquarium that mimics their natural habitat. Water Parameters:
  • Temperature: 73°F to 79°F (23°C to 26°C)
  • pH: 6.0 to 7.5
  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard
Tank Setup: A densely planted tank with plenty of hiding spots and a dark substrate will help replicate their natural environment and highlight the Lampeye's glowing eyes. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended, with a lid to prevent jumping. Elevate your aquarium with the enchanting beauty of the Normans Lampeye Killifish – a true gem for both novice and experienced fishkeepers alike.
