Ogon Butterfly Japanese Koi Carp (Cyprinus carpio)
Overview:
The Ogon Butterfly Japanese Koi is a stunning ornamental koi known for its solid, luminous metallic coloration and elegant flowing fins. Available in brilliant shades of gold or platinum, this variety offers a clean, refined appearance that brings brightness and sophistication to any pond.
Origin:
Originating from Japan, the Ogon variety is prized for its uniform metallic sheen and smooth, flawless body colour. The butterfly-fin variation enhances its visual impact, combining traditional koi elegance with graceful, flowing movement.
Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feed high-quality, color-enhancing koi pellets as a staple, supplemented with vegetables, shrimp, or seasonal treats. Feed 1–2 times daily during warmer months.
Tank / Pond Mates:
Peaceful and social. Best kept with other koi or calm, similarly sized pond fish such as goldfish.
Temperament / Aggression:
Very peaceful and non-aggressive, making it ideal for mixed koi ponds.
Experience Level:
Beginner to advanced. Hardy and adaptable, though maintaining excellent water quality and adequate pond space is essential for long-term health and colour vibrancy.
