Orange Rabbit Snail (Tylomelania sp.)

Overview:
The Orange Rabbit Snail is a vibrant and unique freshwater snail known for its bright orange body and elongated spiral shell. Its distinctive rabbit-like face with long antennae and slow, graceful movement make it a fascinating and eye-catching addition to planted and community aquariums.

Origin:
Native to Sulawesi, Indonesia, Tylomelania species naturally inhabit warm freshwater lakes and rivers with sandy or rocky substrates.

Feeding:
Omnivorous scavenger. Feeds on algae, biofilm, detritus, and leftover fish food. Supplement with algae wafers, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini, cucumber, or spinach to ensure a balanced diet.

Tank / Setup Requirements:

• Minimum tank size: 40 litres (10 gallons)

• Soft sand substrate recommended to allow natural burrowing behaviour

• Provide rocks, driftwood, and décor for grazing

• Stable water conditions with gentle to moderate filtration

Tank Mates:
Suitable for peaceful community aquariums with non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. Avoid snail-eating fish such as puffers or large loaches.

Behaviour:
Peaceful and slow-moving. Often seen grazing on algae and biofilm or slowly exploring the aquarium. Rabbit snails are livebearers, producing a small number of fully formed young rather than laying eggs.

Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy when maintained in stable water conditions with adequate calcium for shell health.

• Temperature: 24–30°C (75–86°F)

• pH: 7.0–8.5

• Water Type: Freshwater

• Hardness: Moderate to hard water preferred for shell development.
