Pagoda Snail (Brotia pagodula) – 3 cm
Overview:
The Pagoda Snail is a unique and eye-catching freshwater snail, recognised for its distinctive spiral shell with pronounced ridges resembling a pagoda tower. With its dark brown to black shell and slow, deliberate movements, this fascinating species adds both character and natural interest to freshwater aquariums.
Origin:
Native to Southeast Asia, particularly Myanmar, Brotia pagodula inhabits flowing rivers and streams with rocky substrates.
Feeding:
Omnivorous grazer. Feeds on algae, biofilm, detritus, and leftover fish food. Supplement with algae wafers, sinking pellets, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini or spinach to ensure a balanced diet.
Tank / Setup Requirements:

Minimum tank size: 40 litres (10 gallons)

Provide rocks, driftwood, and surfaces for grazing

Sand or smooth substrate preferred

Moderate water flow and good oxygenation recommended
Tank Mates:
Suitable for peaceful community aquariums with non-aggressive fish and other invertebrates. Avoid species that may prey on snails.
Behaviour:
Peaceful and slow-moving. Spends most of its time grazing on algae and biofilm across surfaces in the aquarium.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy when kept in stable water conditions with sufficient food and calcium for shell health.
