Panda Sweetlips – Plectorhinchus picus
Overview:
The Panda Sweetlips is a stunning and peaceful marine fish, instantly recognizable by its bold black-and-white “panda†pattern and bright yellow fins. Juveniles display striking spots and bars, making them particularly captivating in a display tank. Known for its graceful swimming and calm temperament, it is an excellent centerpiece species.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly inhabiting coral reefs, lagoons, and reef slopes.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on crustaceans, mollusks, worms, and other meaty marine foods. Regular feedings help maintain vibrant coloration and healthy growth.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful or semi-aggressive fish of similar size. Avoid very small fish or invertebrates, which may be eaten.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful – may establish minor territories as adults but is not aggressive.
Experience Level:
Intermediate to Advanced – requires a large, well-established aquarium with open swimming areas and hiding spaces.
