Pearl Starfish (Fromia cf. monilis)
Overview:
The Pearl Starfish, also known as the Necklace Starfish, is a stunning reef-safe echinoderm recognized for its cream to light-colored body marked with distinctive pearl-like red or orange spots. Peaceful and decorative, it is a favorite among reef aquarists seeking both beauty and function.
Origin:
Indo-Pacific, typically inhabiting coral reefs and rocky substrates.
Feeding:
Feeds on biofilm, algae, and detritus found on live rock and substrate. May accept supplemental feeding of finely chopped seafood or algae-based diets in well-established aquariums.
Tank Mates:
Excellent for reef tanks. Compatible with fish, corals, and most invertebrates. Avoid predatory species such as puffers, triggers, or large Wrasses that may nip at starfish.
Aggression:
Completely peaceful.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Sensitive to sudden changes in salinity and water chemistry; requires a stable, mature tank with plenty of live rock.
