The Pencil Wrasse is a small, peaceful, and reef-safe species, known for its slender, elongated body and bright, vibrant coloration, which can vary between species. Active and graceful, it adds subtle beauty and constant motion to reef aquariums while naturally grazing on small invertebrates.
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, Pseudojuloides species inhabit coral reefs and rubble zones, often hiding among crevices and live rock during the day.
An omnivore that thrives on a diet of frozen mysis, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Supplement with live rock to encourage natural foraging behavior. Feed 2–3 times daily.
Peaceful and reef-safe with most species, including gobies, anthias, tangs, and other small, non-aggressive Wrasses. Avoid large, aggressive, or highly territorial fish.
Extremely peaceful. Minimal territorial behavior; appreciates ample hiding spaces and a sand bed for resting and burrowing.
Recommended for intermediate aquarists. Requires a mature, stable reef aquarium with live rock for foraging and plenty of swimming space.
