Overview:
The Platinum Ricefish is a dazzling aquarium and pond fish with a brilliant metallic white sheen that shimmers beautifully under both aquarium lighting and natural sunlight. Peaceful, hardy, and adaptable, it is perfect for both indoor aquariums and outdoor tubs or ponds, making it a versatile choice for aquarists of all experience levels.

Origin:
The wild-type Oryzias latipes is native to Japan, Korea, and parts of China, where it inhabits rice paddies, streams, and ponds. The platinum morph is a selectively bred color variant developed for the aquarium hobby.

Feeding:
Omnivorous and easy to feed. Accepts flakes, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet helps maintain their intense metallic sheen.

Tank Mates:
Completely peaceful and ideal for nano community tanks with rasboras, small tetras, endlers, shrimp, and other calm species. Best kept in groups of 6 or more for natural schooling behavior.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 64–77°F (18–25°C) (can tolerate cooler outdoor conditions)

• pH: 7.0–8.0

• Hardness: Low to moderately hard water

• Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons

• Enjoys planted tanks with open swimming space

Behavior & Personality:

• Peaceful, active, and social

• Hardy and adaptable to a range of conditions

• Shows best color in natural daylight or under high-quality LED aquarium lights

Special Notes:

• Beginner-friendly and excellent for both aquariums and ponds

• Breeds readily—females carry adhesive eggs before depositing them in plants or spawning mops

• Can help control mosquito larvae in outdoor setups

• Tolerates mild seasonal temperature drops in outdoor tubs or ponds (avoid freezing)
