Overview

Poll’s Congo Cichlid is a vibrant freshwater African cichlid, known for its striking coloration and active swimming behavior. Males display intense hues during breeding, while the species overall adds energy and beauty to well-planted cichlid aquariums.

Origin

Native to Lake Tanganyika in Africa, inhabiting rocky shorelines and sandy areas with abundant hiding spots.

Feeding

Omnivorous. Accepts high-quality cichlid flakes, pellets, frozen foods (bloodworms, brine shrimp), and occasional live foods. A varied diet encourages vibrant coloration and healthy growth.

Tank Mates

Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other Tanganyikan cichlids of similar size and temperament. Avoid small or very passive fish that may be stressed or harassed.

Aggression

Moderate. Territorial, especially during breeding; provide ample rock formations and hiding spaces to minimize conflict.

Experience Level

Intermediate to advanced. Requires careful attention to water quality and tank setup to thrive.
