Polleni Grouper – Cephalopholis polleni
Overview:
The Polleni Grouper, also known as the Midnight Grouper, is a striking predatory fish characterized by its deep blue-black body adorned with tiny pale spots. Its bold coloration and sleek form make it an impressive addition to large marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found around coral reefs in areas such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and northern Australia.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – thrives on meaty foods such as shrimp, fish, squid, and other protein-rich marine preparations. A varied diet ensures vibrant coloration and optimal health.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with large, robust tank mates. Small fish and ornamental invertebrates will likely be eaten.
Aggression:
Territorial and predatory – requires ample space and plenty of rockwork or hiding spots.
Experience Level:
Advanced aquarists – suitable only for those experienced with large predatory marine species and capable of providing a spacious, stable aquarium.
