Overview

The Poreless Micro Gudgeon is a small, cryptic sleeper goby known for its smooth, poreless head (hence the name) and muted earthy coloration. Though visually subtle, it is a fascinating species thanks to its secretive behavior and compact size, making it ideal for specialized or biotope-style aquaria.

Origin

Native to freshwater systems of New Guinea and nearby regions. Typically inhabits slow-moving creeks, backwaters, and muddy or leaf-littered habitats.

Feeding

Carnivorous micropredator. Readily consumes:

• Live or frozen micro-foods (daphnia, baby brine shrimp, bloodworms, mosquito larvae)

• Small sinking carnivore pellets

• Finely chopped meaty foods

A varied diet helps maintain condition and encourage natural behavior.

Tank Mates

Peaceful but easily outcompeted. Best kept with small, calm community fish such as micro-rainbows, small rasboras, shy gouramis, or other non-aggressive species. Avoid boisterous or fast-feeding fish.

Aggression

Low. May defend a small space but rarely shows strong territoriality. Prefers to hide rather than fight. Excellent for peaceful community or species-only setups.

Experience Level

Intermediate. Hardy once settled, but does best in stable, well-maintained aquaria with gentle flow and plenty of cover.
