Potter’s Dwarf Angelfish – Centropyge potteri
Overview:
The Potter’s Dwarf Angelfish is a vibrant and iconic Hawaiian species, instantly recognizable by its orange body with intricate blue striping and deep blue fins. Highly sought after for its striking coloration, it adds a brilliant splash of contrast and movement to a reef or fish-only aquarium.
Origin:
Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, typically found along rocky reef slopes and coral outcroppings.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – thrives on a varied diet of marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and angelfish-specific prepared foods. Frequent small feedings help maintain health and coloration.
Tank Mates:
Compatible with peaceful community fish. May show aggression toward other dwarf angelfish or similarly shaped species. Can be housed in a reef environment, but may nip at LPS corals, clams, and sponges.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – territorial toward other angelfish but generally peaceful in a mixed community setting.
Experience Level:
Intermediate to Advanced – requires a stable, well-established tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding.
