Pretty Damsel – Dascyllus marginatus
Overview:
The Pretty Damsel is a small, hardy, and active reef fish with a silvery-white body marked by dark edging and subtle blue highlights. It’s a lively species that adds constant movement and a touch of elegance to the aquarium.
Origin:
Native to the Red Sea and Western Indian Ocean, where it inhabits coral-rich lagoons and reef slopes.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – accepts high-quality flakes, pellets, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
Tank Mates:
Best suited for semi-aggressive community tanks. It can coexist with other robust species but may show aggression toward smaller or timid fish. Generally considered reef-safe with corals and invertebrates.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – territorial as it matures, especially in smaller aquariums. Keeping in larger groups can reduce aggression.
Experience Level:
Beginner-friendly, as it’s resilient and adaptable, making it an excellent choice for new marine aquarists.
