Pseudotropheus Crabro Malawi African Cichlid Overview: The Pseudotropheus Crabro, famously known as the Malawi Cichlid or "Bumblebee Cichlid," is a vibrant and active addition to any freshwater aquarium. Boasting distinctive yellow and black striping, this fish adds both color and dynamic behavior to your tank. They can grow up to 6 inches in length, making them a medium-sized cichlid. Origin: Native to the rocky, sandy shores of Lake Malawi in East Africa, these cichlids are accustomed to the diverse and enriched environment of the African Rift Lake system. Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, Pseudotropheus Crabro thrives on a diet rich in both plant and animal matter. High-quality cichlid pellets, spirulina, and occasional treats like brine shrimp or daphnia will keep them healthy and vibrant. Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include other Malawi cichlids of similar size and temperament. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species or those small enough to be considered prey. A spacious tank with plenty of rock formations and hiding spaces is recommended to mimic their natural habitat and minimize territorial disputes. Aggression: Known for their territorial nature, establishing a hierarchy is normal. To mitigate aggression, maintain a larger, species-appropriate group and provide ample space for territories. Experience Level: Due to their specific care requirements and potential for aggression, these cichlids are best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists familiar with managing a species-specific or African cichlid community aquarium. Water Parameters:
  • Temperature: 78-82°F (25-28°C)
  • pH: 7.8-8.6
  • Hardness: 10-20 dGH
Regular water changes, proper filtration, and consistent monitoring of water parameters are essential to keep these stunning cichlids healthy and thriving.
