Pseudotropheus Cynotilapia Afra Red Top Malawi African Cichlid Overview: The Cynotilapia Afra Red Top is a vibrant and active species known for its striking coloration, particularly the males with their vivid red tops. This dwarf Mbuna cichlid makes a fascinating addition to any freshwater aquarium due to its lively demeanor and intriguing behaviors. Origin: Native to the rocky shores of Lake Malawi in East Africa, this species thrives in environments with plenty of hiding spaces and territorial boundaries. Feeding: Primarily herbivorous, the Cynotilapia Afra Red Top fares best on a diet rich in vegetable matter, including spirulina flakes and pellets. Occasional offerings of high-quality, protein-rich foods can be included to vary the diet, but should be kept to a minimum to prevent digestive issues. Tank Mates: Ideal tank mates include other Malawi cichlids of similar size and temperament. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species or those significantly larger. Consideration should be given to ensuring a proper male to female ratio to reduce aggression and stress among the group. Aggression: While generally peaceful towards other species, males can exhibit territorial aggression towards each other, especially in confined spaces. A larger tank with ample hiding spots and carefully structured territories can mitigate aggressive behaviors.
