Pseudotropheus Melanochromis Auratus Malawi African Cichlid Overview: The Melanochromis Auratus, commonly known as the Auratus Cichlid or Golden Mbuna, is a vibrant freshwater fish renowned for its dramatic color transformation from juvenile to adult. Juveniles display a dazzling golden-yellow hue with black stripes, while males morph into a striking black with light blue stripes as they mature. Females generally retain their juvenile colors. Reaching up to 5 inches in length, these cichlids add a splash of color and activity to any aquarium. Origin: Native to the rocky shores of Lake Malawi in East Africa, Auratus Cichlids thrive in environments with abundant hiding spots. They are a testament to the diverse and colorful life found in African rift lakes. Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, Melanochromis Auratus do well on a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets or flakes supplemented with spirulina, fresh vegetables, and occasional treats of live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia. Avoid overfeeding to maintain water quality and fish health. Tank Mates: Choosing the right tank mates is crucial due to their aggressive nature, especially among males. Suitable companions include other Mbunas of similar size and temperament. It's advisable to avoid housing them with significantly smaller or more docile species. A spacious tank with plenty of rock formations and hiding places can help mitigate aggression. Aggression: Auratus Cichlids are known for their territorial behavior, particularly during breeding. Providing ample space, complex environments, and maintaining a proper male-to-female ratio can help reduce aggression levels. Experience Level: Best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists familiar with managing cichlid behavior and water quality. Beginners passionate about delving into the world of African cichlids can succeed with proper research and commitment. Water Parameters:- Temperature: 74-82°F (23-28°C)
