Red Boxing Shrimp (Stenopus hispidus)
Overview:
The Red Boxing Shrimp, also known as the Banded Coral Shrimp, is a striking reef shrimp with vivid red and white banding and long, elegant claws. It is well-known for its cleaning behavior, often establishing cleaning stations on reefs to remove parasites from fish.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic, commonly found on coral reefs and rocky substrates.
Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feeds on detritus, parasites, and leftover foods. In captivity, accepts finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality prepared foods.
Tank Mates:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Compatible with fish and invertebrates. Its cleaning behavior benefits tank mates rather than causing stress.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful but may display territorial behavior toward other shrimp of the same species.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, suitable for established reef tanks with plenty of crevices or hiding spots.
