Red Line Pygmy Basslet (Pseudochromis sp.)

Overview

The Red Line Pygmy Basslet is a beautifully colored and energetic reef fish, distinguished by its vivid pink to reddish body marked with a bright horizontal stripe running from the snout to the tail. Compact, hardy, and full of personality, this species adds vibrant color and constant activity to any marine aquarium.

Origin

Believed to originate from the Indo-Pacific region, this Pseudochromis species typically inhabits coral reefs and rocky slopes, sheltering among crevices and coral heads. Its exact distribution varies, as it represents a group of closely related regional variants.

Feeding

A carnivorous species that thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and quality frozen or pellet preparations. Feed once or twice daily for best coloration and vitality.

Tank Mates

Generally peaceful toward other community fish when housed in a suitably sized aquarium with ample hiding spaces. Avoid keeping with other dottybacks or very timid fish in smaller tanks, as territorial behavior may occur.

Aggression

Moderately territorial, especially toward similar species or fish of comparable size and shape. Providing rockwork, caves, and visual barriers helps reduce conflict and allows for natural territorial behavior.

Experience Level

Suitable for beginner to intermediate aquarists. The Red Line Pygmy Basslet is hardy, easy to feed, and reef-safe, making it a great choice for small to medium-sized marine aquariums.
