Red Neon Starfish Echinaster Sepositus The Red Neon Starfish, also known as the Echinaster Sepositus, is a vibrant and eye-catching addition to any saltwater aquarium. Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, this starfish species is known for its striking orange-red coloration and distinctive bumpy texture. In terms of feeding, the Red Neon Starfish is primarily a grazer, feeding on biofilm, algae, and small sponges. It can be supplemented with dried seaweed or small pieces of clam meat. When it comes to tank mates, the Red Neon Starfish is generally considered reef-safe, as it poses little threat to other invertebrates or corals. However, it should be kept in a reasonably large (50+ gallons) and mature aquarium with plenty of live rock for it to graze on. The Red Neon Starfish is relatively hardy compared to some other starfish species, but it does require stable water parameters to thrive. It is sensitive to sudden changes in water chemistry, such as fluctuations in oxygen levels, salinity, and pH. Proper acclimation is crucial when introducing this starfish to a new aquarium. For optimal care, the Red Neon Starfish requires a well-established marine aquarium with a sandy or coral rubble substrate, and a pH between 8.1 and 8.4, a temperature range of 72-82°F, and a specific gravity of 1.020-1.025. It is generally recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarium hobbyists due to its specific water parameter requirements and sensitivity to changes.
