Red Stripe Cardinal Ostorhinchus Margaritophorus Overview: The Red Stripe Cardinal, also known as Ostorhinchus margaritophorus, is a captivating marine fish distinguished by its vibrant red stripes that adorn a sleek, silver body. Growing up to 7 cm in length, this species adds a splash of color and elegance to any saltwater aquarium. Origin: Native to the Western Pacific Ocean, these cardinals are found in reef environments ranging from shallow lagoons to deeper coral slopes, preferring areas with ample hiding spots. Feeding: Omnivores by nature, the Red Stripe Cardinal thrives on a diet rich in both meaty foods and marine flakes or pellets. Offering a variety of foods, such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and quality commercial foods, ensures balanced nutrition. Tank Mates: Ideal for a community aquarium, these cardinals are peaceful fish that do well with other non-aggressive species. They are best kept in small groups or pairs to replicate their natural social behavior. Caution is advised with larger predatory fish that may see them as prey. Aggression: Exhibiting a peaceful temperament, the Red Stripe Cardinal poses little threat to its tank mates. However, they can become territorial with their own kind if the tank is too small or lacks sufficient hiding spaces. Experience Level: This species is well-suited for aquarists of all levels, including beginners. They are relatively hardy, but maintaining stable water conditions is crucial for their well-being.
