Overview:
The Red Tailed Penguin Tetra is a unique and eye-catching schooling fish that features a sleek silver body, a bold black horizontal stripe, and a distinct red-tinted tail, adding a subtle flash of color to its refined appearance. Known for their peaceful nature and rhythmic swimming, these tetras are ideal for community tanks and look best when kept in schools of 6 or more.
Origin:
Found in the Amazon and Orinoco River basins across Brazil, Peru, and Colombia. The red-tailed variant is likely a selectively bred strain or natural regional color morph of the well-known Thayeria boehlkei.
Feeding:
Omnivorous and easy to feed. Will happily accept high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. A varied diet helps maintain color and energy levels.
Tank Mates:
Very peaceful and community-friendly. Pairs well with other small schooling fish such as neon tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, dwarf gouramis, and peaceful livebearers. Keep in groups of 6+ for best behavior and visual impact.
