Rock Hopper Hawkfish – Cirrhitichthys aprinus

Overview:
The Rock Hopper Hawkfish is a vibrant and energetic reef fish, recognized for its bold patterns, spiny fins, and characteristic “hopping” behavior as it moves among rocks and corals. Its lively personality and perching habits make it a standout addition to marine aquariums.

Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly found around coral reefs, rocky outcrops, and lagoons, where it perches and ambushes small prey.

Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on small crustaceans, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Multiple daily feedings are recommended to keep it healthy and active.

Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful or moderately semi-aggressive reef fish. Avoid overly aggressive or much larger species that may stress or harm the Rock Hopper Hawkfish.

Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – territorial around its perching sites but generally compatible with other mid-level tank dwellers.

Experience Level:
Intermediate – ideal for aquarists with established reef tanks featuring plenty of live rock for perching and hiding.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 74–78°F (23–26°C)

• pH: 8.1–8.4

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025

• Minimum Tank Size: 50+ gallons
