Ruby Anthias – Paranthias colonus
Overview:
The Ruby Anthias is a stunning and active marine fish, featuring deep red to ruby-colored body tones with subtle iridescent highlights. Known for their mid-water schooling behavior, they add movement, vibrancy, and elegance to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Western Atlantic and Caribbean, typically found around coral reefs and drop-offs, where they form small to medium-sized schools.
Feeding:
Planktivorous – feeds on zooplankton and small meaty foods. In captivity, provide frequent feedings of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful reef fish. Compatible with other anthias, small schooling fish, and reef-safe species.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive – thrives in groups, displaying natural schooling behavior.
Experience Level:
Intermediate – requires a well-established aquarium with stable water conditions and regular feedings.
