Scarlet Hawkfish – Neocirrhitus armatus
Overview:
The Scarlet Hawkfish is a striking reef species, instantly recognizable by its vivid red coloration and small, robust body. Known for its perching behavior and curious personality, it adds lively activity and bold color to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly inhabiting coral reefs, rocky outcrops, and lagoon environments.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – thrives on small crustaceans, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Daily feedings of high-quality meaty foods are recommended.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful to moderately semi-aggressive reef fish. Avoid predatory or highly aggressive species that may stress or eat this hawkfish.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive – territorial around its perching spots but generally peaceful with compatible tank mates.
Experience Level:
Intermediate – requires a well-established reef tank with plenty of live rock for perching and hiding.
