Lyretail Anthias Pseudanthias Squamipinnis Female Overview: The Lyretail Anthias, scientifically known as Pseudanthias Squamipinnis, is a strikingly beautiful marine fish, renowned for its vivid colors and dynamic swimming behavior. Males typically showcase a brighter hue with a distinctive lyre-shaped tail, while females are slightly more subdued in color. This species is an active swimmer and adds a splash of color and energy to any marine aquarium. Origin: Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, Lyretail Anthias are found in a range of environments from lagoons to coral reefs. They are accustomed to clear, warm waters and are often seen in groups, swimming in the mid to upper regions of the water column. Feeding: Lyretail Anthias are planktivores, feeding primarily on zooplankton in the wild. In captivity, they require a varied diet of high-quality marine flakes, frozen, and live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other planktonic foods. Frequent feeding, at least two to three times a day, is recommended to maintain their health and vibrant coloration. Tank Mates: Being a peaceful species, Lyretail Anthias do well with a variety of tank mates. They thrive in a community tank with other peaceful to moderately aggressive fish. Good companions include clownfish, Wrasses, gobies, and other anthias species. It’s advisable to introduce all anthias to the tank simultaneously to prevent territorial behavior. Aggression: Generally, Lyretail Anthias are not aggressive towards other species. However, males can display aggression towards each other. To mitigate this, keep one male with several females or maintain a larger group in spacious tanks to disperse aggression. Experience Level: Intermediate. While not the most challenging species to keep, Lyretail Anthias do require some level of marine aquarium experience. Attention to water quality, diet, and tank dynamics are crucial for their well-being. Water Parameters: To thrive, Lyretail Anthias need stable water conditions. Ideal parameters include a temperature range of 72-78°F (22-26°C), a pH of 8.1-8.4, and specific gravity of 1.020-1.025. Regular water changes and monitoring of water parameters are essential to maintain these conditions. In conclusion, the Lyretail Anthias is a mesmerizing addition to any marine aquarium for hobbyists looking to add color and vibrancy. With proper care, feeding, and tank management, they can be a joy to watch and maintain.
