Serpent Starfish (Ophioderma sp.)
Overview:
The Serpent Starfish is a hardy and fascinating echinoderm with long, slender arms that allow it to move quickly across the aquarium. Nocturnal and highly effective at scavenging, it helps keep tanks clean while providing interesting behavior for marine enthusiasts.
Origin:
Found throughout the Indo-Pacific and Caribbean, typically inhabiting rocky reefs and sandy bottoms.
Feeding:
Omnivorous scavenger. Consumes detritus, leftover food, and small organic matter. Can be target-fed with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, or sinking pellets.
Tank Mates:
Generally safe with fish and corals. May prey on very small fish or shrimp if underfed, so ensure regular feeding. Avoid predatory tank mates.
Aggression:
Peaceful when well-fed, but opportunistic feeder.
