Sixline Grouper – Grammistes sexlineatus

Overview:
The Sixline Grouper is a hardy and attractive predatory fish, recognized by its bold horizontal stripes as a juvenile that gradually fade into a spotted pattern as it matures. Its transformation in appearance makes it a fascinating species for larger aquariums.

Origin:
Found across the Indo-Pacific region, from the Red Sea and East Africa to Australia and the Western Pacific.

Feeding:
Carnivorous – requires a diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, silversides, and other protein-rich items. A varied diet will help maintain its health and vibrant coloration.

Tank Mates:
Best suited to large, aggressive fish like triggers, bigger Wrasses, and other groupers. Will prey upon small fish and ornamental crustaceans.

Aggression:
Territorial and predatory – can be aggressive toward smaller or more docile tank mates. Needs plenty of space and rockwork for territories.

Experience Level:
Intermediate to advanced aquarists – suitable for those with experience managing large predatory marine species.

• Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)

• pH: 8.1–8.4

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025

• Minimum Tank Size: 180+ gallons
