Overview

The Spiny Finned Basslet is a rare and visually striking reef species featuring alternating red and white body bands and uniquely elongated fin spines. Origin

Found throughout the Indo-Pacific region, including the Great Barrier Reef, Indonesia, and Japan, the Spiny Finned Basslet inhabits coral slopes and rubble zones, often hovering close to the substrate or darting between rocks for shelter.

Feeding

A carnivorous species that thrives on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet diets. Feed once or twice daily to maintain its health and vivid coloration.

Tank Mates

Generally peaceful and reef-safe, this species does well with other small, non-aggressive community fish such as gobies, blennies, and smaller Wrasses. Avoid large or aggressive species that may intimidate or outcompete it for food.

Aggression

Peaceful and shy, particularly when first introduced. Once acclimated, it becomes more confident but still prefers areas with rockwork and caves for security.

Experience Level

Recommended for intermediate aquarists due to its rarity and preference for stable, mature aquariums. Hardy once established, the Spiny Finned Basslet rewards patient keepers with unique behavior and vibrant appearance.
