Spiny Loach (Lepidocephalichthys thermalis)

Overview

The Spiny Loach is a small, peaceful freshwater bottom-dweller with a slender, elongated body and subtle markings. It is active and inquisitive, often burrowing in soft substrates, making it an interesting addition to community aquariums and biotope setups.

Origin

Native to South and Southeast Asia, including India and Sri Lanka, inhabiting slow-moving rivers, ponds, and shallow streams with sandy or muddy bottoms.

Feeding

Omnivorous. Accepts sinking pellets, flakes, frozen foods (bloodworms, daphnia), and small live foods. Feeding along the substrate encourages natural foraging behaviour.

Tank Mates

Peaceful and compatible with small to medium-sized community fish such as tetras, rasboras, danios, and dwarf cichlids. Avoid large or aggressive species that may harass or eat them.

Aggression

Very low. Territorial disputes are rare if multiple hiding spots and soft substrate are available.

Experience Level

Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and easy to maintain, making it suitable for both community and species-focused tanks.
