Square Spot Anthias – Pseudanthias pleurotaenia
Overview:
The Square Spot Anthias is a vibrantly colored marine fish, featuring pink to orange body hues with a distinctive square-shaped spot on its side. Highly active and social, it brings dynamic movement and mid-water vibrancy to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, commonly found around coral reefs and drop-offs in areas such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea.
Feeding:
Planktivorous – feeds on zooplankton and other small live or frozen foods. In captivity, provide frequent feedings of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other planktonic foods.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful community fish. Ideal companions include other anthias, reef-safe species, and mid-water schooling fish.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive – thrives in groups of 6 or more, displaying natural schooling behavior.
Experience Level:
Intermediate to advanced – requires a well-established aquarium with stable water parameters and consistent feeding.
